Graham wignall was on hand today to record further progress on railway vehicle preservation's carriage shed at swithland sidings. with further roof cladding and part of the north end wall in place the east side carriage siding has now been levelled and the infill from the outer rail to the shed side has been completed.. Unfortunately (from a planning perspective) the great central railway runs through open countryside, with limited opportunity for siting of large carriage sheds. rvp took a lease on an adjacent disused branch line (the mountsorrel railway) in 2005, with the intention of providing covered accommodation there.. The new chord from the ex-midland railway’s leicester to burton line down to the gc track bed in the distance. the stacks of wood are on the site of the great central locomotive shed. photograph taken from the passing ‘ruddington requiem’ special train, 9/6/84..
